GLEN Win People of Year Award 2010

Posted by admin

GLEN have been awarded a Rehab People of the Year Award for 2010. The Award, which was televised live on RTE television, was presented to GLEN by Angela Kerins, Chairperson of the Adjudicating Committee, People of the Years Awards “for its persuasiveness and ability to hold its nerve in the pursuit of its goals and for its work in enabling Irish people to move closer to a society that respects all of its citizens equally”.

Accepting the award on behalf of GLEN Christopher Robson said “It’s wonderful for GLEN to win such a prestigious award and to be honoured in this way by the public. We have seen so much progress for lesbian and gay people over the past few years, especially this year with the passage of civil partnership. The speed of the change is a tribute to the openness and fairness of Irish people and never losing sight of this has been the one of the keys to GLEN’s success”.

This was echoed by Sandra Irwin-Gowran, GLEN’s Director of Education Policy when she said: “This award sends out a wonderfully affirming message to lesbian and gay people. For GLEN, our work will continue on, to ensure that who any of us fall in love with should never be a reason for somebody to be afraid or discriminated against, whether at home, at school, at work or in their local community”.
