Job Opportunity with BelongTo

Posted by admin

LGBT Youth Mental Health Worker
The aim of this role is to develop the skills of youth workers, volunteers, steering groups and young people engaged with BeLonG To groups in relation to mental health promotion. It is envisaged that the programme will be three years in length, and is divided into a number of specific stages, combining elements of Advocacy, Youth Work, Training and Health Promotion.

Needs Assessment:
Building on the needs established in existing research, additional in-depth and geographically specific needs assessments will be carried out with LGBT young people and youth workers nationwide to highlight current mental health needs and gaps.
Health Promotion:
Based on the needs ascertained, a programme of skills-based, practical mental health promotion will be designed, produced and facilitated with the national network of LGBT youth groups. The programme will offer a ‘training the trainers’ package of relevant mental health issues to youth workers, steering group members and young people.
Advocacy and Outreach Campaign:
The project will culminate with an Advocacy and Outreach campaign, designed in partnership with LGBT young people themselves (in-line with the Critical Social Education model of youth work, BeLonG To’s chosen model of youth work), and targeting media used by LGBT young people.
The Advocacy and outreach campaign will have a two-fold objective; promoting the positive mental health of LGBT young people through effective messaging, and also to advertise a series of national public workshops for LGBT young people who may not currently be involved in existing services.
Reporting: An Evaluation report will be issued detailing progress in mental health status of participants. The results of the evaluation will then be used as a tool to plan the programme activities for years two and three.
BeLonG To Youth Services is an equal opportunities employer.
Salary: €35,000 per annum pro rata
The role is offered for 21 hours per week.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo Garda Vetting.
